New Year's Resolutions
It's time. Time to reflect back on the events of 2016 and look forward into 2017. Should we concentrate on those five pounds we put on over the holidays (thanks Mom - it was yummy!)? Resolve to spend more time in the gym? Do this thing more and definitely do less of THAT? We'll eat better and we'll resolve to be the ideal version of ourselves?

New Year's Eve Celebrations.
After a few rounds of "wake up too late on New Year's Day because New Year's Eve went a little too long" we started looking for alternatives. Why not wake up on the first day of the New Year doing the thing we love the most -- spending time outside? Here are some ideas from around the country where you can wear yourself out on New Year's Eve playing in the outdoors and waking up New Year's Day with the opportunity to do it all over again.
You know those Rockwellian images of runner sleds, snowflakes, mittens and jovial people enjoying it all? Those are the images we use to define the holiday season...but what about when it's un-seasonably warm OR you live in an area where snowfall isn't at all likely? How can you sled when Mother-Nature refuses to cooperate?
Hunting for a Christmas Tree
Truth be told, this all started years ago looking at the price of trees in a tree lot.
This holiday GSI Outdoors will be giving its employees December 24 to January 1st off to get outside with friends and family. We ask that you join us #INTHETREES this holiday to enjoy the outdoors that we all love so much. Because “it is all about the outdoors, the rest is meaningless…” right?
Backcountry Hot Cocoa Bar
When the mercury drops, our attention often turns to activities we can do outside. We hike, ski, snowshoe, maybe build a snowman; but cooler temperatures can sometimes make us forget about "hang out" time. We've got a simple solution.
8 Favorite Sledding Spots
The holiday season has started and winter's right around the corner. It's the time of the year when, regardless of Mother Nature's willingness to comply, we start wishing for the cold. Images of snow gently dusting evergreen trees, snowmen, snow capped mountains and sledding hills are the things of seasonal daydreams. From the ages of four to 84 (well maybe consult your doctor first if you're actually 84), sledding is guaranteed to put smiles on everyone's face. Family coming for the holidays? Take them sledding. Want a holiday celebration with friends? Yep...sledding.
Holiday Gift Guides
It's crazy but Thanksgiving is upon us, the official start of the holiday season. We're looking forward to spending Thanksgiving in the Trees but in the back of our mind, we know that after we enjoy this amazing meal with friends and family we've got some people on our shopping list to start thinking about.
Thanksgiving Part 3
Leftovers are one of the best parts of Thanksgiving. Some people like to reheat and repeat the entire Thanksgiving experience, but after spending an entire day off inside, we’re more inclined to get outside and go for a hike. In order to have our cake (or turkey) and eat it too, we’ve developed a packable leftover option.
Thanksgiving Part 2
It’s a bummer when someone has to spend the whole day in the kitchen. A few years ago, some friends of ours suggested a potluck Thanksgiving. It turned out AWESOME: delicious food and time where EVERYONE could hang out. So, what are we bringing? Bourbon Bacon Apple Pie! We got this recipe from a friend of ours who was raised in the South, so it’s the real deal, y’all. We adapted the recipe a bit to make it work perfectly in the dutch oven. Bourbon adds a Southern flare and the dutch oven adds a smoky complement to the bacon, reminding us to be thankful for the outdoors even on an “inside holiday” like turkey day.
Thanksgiving Part 1
Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Next week, many of us will sit down to tables piled high with delicious treats and encircled by the people who mean the most to us. Here are some of our favorite tips to make Thanksgiving enjoyable, memorable, and bring a bit of outdoor flare to this special time.
GSI Materials: Stainless Steel
If you’re the type of person who thinks camping means cooking over coals or an open fire, our Glacier Stainless Steel product family is for you. Stainless steel (ours is Premium 304 18/8 Stainless steel) is an incredibly durable material. When we make percolators or cooksets we know that they’ll serve you for years to come.
There is a cadence to each year. They're broken into the four seasons determined by the earth's orbit. We anticipate the coming of ski season, camping season, race season, maybe baseball or football season. School years start and end. All of these seasons have definite start and end points - a time in each year when they have our focus. Elk season is different. It gives the year a pulse.
Fall is an amazing time to get out for a hike. Cooler temperatures mean fewer people and fewer bugs. The vivid colors of the changing leaves mean photo opportunities abound (get your Instagram account ready!). The lower angle of the sun brings a new feel to your favorite backcountry haunts. Take advantage of this season and plan a day outing with your favorite hiking buddy.
I think that I say, “This is my favorite season!” with every season. When winter is here, it’s the snow. When our breath makes little clouds as we hike, ice climb, build snow caves, or on long days on the slopes followed by warm fires and hot drinks in the evenings. Then spring and summer, with their promise of warmer days and warmer water and lots of camping. But fall? That crisp air after a hot summer, the spray of color all around that is so swift but breathtakingly beautiful. And harvest food and cider and picnics in the falling leaves. We can’t wait to get outside, layering up for chilly mornings and then shedding most of that as the sun warms us up during the day.
The days are getting shorter and fall is in the air. That added crispness in the morning is something that I look so forward to while sweating through the end of summer. It won’t be long until outdoor adventures require extra layers, budgeting activities around sunset times, and depending on headlamps. It’s time to squeeze a few more adventures in before saying farewell to summer.
Community Coffee Project
We all lead busy lives. Between work, family, and trying to fit in our outdoor pursuits, weekends get filled up, Monday comes around and before you know it, it’s Friday…
Tiffin Back-to-School Lunches
Packing lunches for our boys is always a roller coaster in our house. Since they started school several years ago, both have refused to eat hot lunch at school, which honestly has been both a blessing and a challenge. We’ve been impressed that they are concerned about the kind of food they eat and where its sourced, but the difficulty lies in a lack of variety. Simply said, sometimes we just get in a rut when packing their lunches.
Maybe in these waning days of summer you’re missing those nostalgic trips from your childhood when you and your family headed to the cabin or lake house for time together. Maybe a cabin get-away is just one of those “to do’s” you’re aching to get done. Regardless of the reason, we’re here to fan those embers deep inside. It’s time for a summer cabin get-away!
Hacking The Bugaboo Waffle Maker
Waffles. They've long been the centerpiece of urban brunches and fall cyclocross races (well maybe they share the attention with Belgian beers in that instance). When we designed the Bugaboo Waffle Iron, our camping companions rejoiced and our favorite breakfast treats started showing up in campsites. Waffles are delicious whether they’re covered in maple syrup, piled high with fresh fruit, or topped with your favorite nut butter. Waffles fresh off the camp stove under nothing but an early morning mountain sky become the backbones of a memory.
The weather's getting warmer here it's time to get outside and celebrate with friends. We have fun and easy cocktails for the campground or any outdoor adventure - grab the ingredients, join some friends, spend some time outside this weekend and raise a glass!
